Our First Wedding Anniversary

Today marks the day of our first wedding anniversary.  We’ve survived marriage with each other for an entire year without completely losing our minds; and to mark this special event, I made my husband a memory box.

This memory box is filled with all the pictures I could find of the two of us together since we began dating toward the end of 2014, as well as pictures of us and our children.  You see, we began this journey when we first met with me having a 6 month old baby and him having a 3 year old.  We’ve come a long way since then and now the children are now 6, 2, 1 (we found out we were pregnant with him within three months of being together), and one more due to arrive in April.  All boys too!

But anyways, this memory box was my special first anniversary/Valentine’s Day present to him.  I worked for over six hours on this and had more than one emotional meltdown. Like the irrational crying my eyes out walking through the store because I had to go out again kind of meltdown. It was similar to an irrational meltdown one of my toddlers might have.  Being pregnant in the third trimester and staying up late hours of the night before Valentine’s Day to do a last minute project probably wasn’t the best combination.  But alas, I got it done through a whole lot of time, tears, frustration (I’m too much of a perfectionist sometimes), complications, and keeping my husband out of the bedroom.  I’d say we went to bed around 2AM the night before.  He was relieved to finally be able to go to bed I think.

I wanted to share some about this project.

First I got together was I thought was all the needed supplies. Then after trial and error I realized that big roll of black paper wasn’t going to be so easy to cut 13′ by 4.5″ out of that in a straight line. So I had to drive out to go get some black construction paper because I decided that would work better. Much easier to cut the already foot long paper into 12″ by 4.5″ strips.

The supplies minus the tape, black construction paper, exacto blade, ruler…

But once I got the black paper cut I had to accordion fold 13 feet into squares for my pictures and words to go onto.

Actually my cutting skills aren’t up to par and I had to go through and recut the entire thing like an inch off one side…..but I tried. Plus it did fit in the box after I had finished trimming some of the width off.

I got all my pictures and pieces of paper with my words in the exact order I wanted them to go in.

The outside of the box was a project in itself as well. I modge podged that black paper all around the outside of the box, and on the outside of the lid. I painted the inside of the box and inside of the lid with white paint.

Once everything was dry and situation, in came the decorating of the box with the epic stickers I found at the Hobby Lobby. The Hobby Lobby in town in my new best friend by the way! I love it! I also accented the bottom of the box with some cute washi tape. There’s also a strip of washi tape along the bottom edge of the lid as well.

Once the paint was dry on the inside, I wrote on the bottom of the box and added some more of that adorable washi tape to the top edge as well. 🙂

He really is.  I tell him literally everything.

As for the underside of the lid of the box, I put our first initials and some cute little hearts. 💕

Once the box was complete and I had glued my pictures on this is how it turned out. I made a little pull tab out of the washi tape to make it easier to pull it out of the box.

366 days instead of 365, because we got married on a leap year! I think that’s pretty cool.

And that’s just the beginning. There are 30 pictures throughout it. At the end I wrote “Forever Yours” and signed my name and even sealed it with a kiss with some of my favorite lipstick. 😘

We had a pretty good anniversary though overall. We didn’t get to do anything too special though, since we didn’t have anyone to watch the kids. It’s a Tuesday anyways. So we went out to eat at the Golden Corral with the kids.

Happy Valentine’s Day. ❤️

Crafty Valentines ❤️

So today the kids and I made Valentine’s Day crafts. I helped Greyson make one for Juan (my husband and his step-dad) and one for his daddy. And I also helped Dominic make one for his daddy too!

Greyson and I got crafty this morning while Dom was taking his morning rest. I had found a cute idea on Pinterest and we just had to try it out! I drew the heart outline and wrote “I LOVE YOU TO PIECES” and who it was from and to, as well as the year at the top right corner. This one he was making for Juan.

Greyson did the rest all by himself (mostly). All I had to do was hand him the sheets of purple, pink, and red paper and the scissors and let him get to work. He cut up little bits of the paper and I helped him make piles of the different colored paper pieces.

Then I gave him the glue stick and instructed him to put a bunch of glue inside the lines of the heart. Here he needed some assistance because he started going a little crazy with the glue stick. 😂

Then he placed his cut up paper pieces inside the heart.

I’m so proud of my baby boy! He also wanted to further decorate it. He’s very creative in his decorating. 😊

I’m so so proud of Greyson for how independent and creative he’s become. 🙂

Next we worked together on making his daddy a valentine! Note that this was another Pinterest idea I found. I absolutely LOVE Pinterest. Pinterest is the best. Seriously. It’s the bomb.

I cut out a heart and helped Greyson paint his hand and we made his little handprint. We glued the heart onto a piece of red paper. Then I wrote the year in the top right corner and wrote “Dear Daddy, I made this heart just for you. I created it in my own special way. I wanted to say I love you on this Valentine’s Day! Love, Greyson” under his cute little handprint. Greyson got very creative in decorating his daddy’s card!

He was working really hard!

He did such a good job on his valentines today. He was so proud of his work too! 😁

I helped Dominic make his daddy a valentine after naptime. I wrote the year and beside the heart and his little footprints I wrote for him “Dear Daddy, I love you from the bottom of my heart to the tips of my toes. Love, Dominic”. Dom’s 16 months old. We kept it simple but sweet. 😊

That cute little face though!! Gotta love my squish. ❤

I think he did a rather magnificent job decorating his daddy’s valentine. 😁

Now I just need to figure out what I’m going to make their daddy/step-daddy/my husband for Valentine’s Day. February 14th also happens to be our first wedding anniversary as well! I have an idea of what I want to make for him in mind at the least….. 💡
